It is Wednesday, but it feels like it should be Friday. Maybe it’s the cold/allergies I am battling, my energy levels are down. I need to level up. Sometimes I need a good movie, song or scripture to help motivate me; change my mindset from weakness to power.
I remember as a kid my parents took me to a British movie about running. I was a bit suspect about the movie, but when it ended I bolted out of the theater, running through the city streets back to the car. I probably ran everywhere I went for a week straight. I was that pumped! Some of you can probably hear the music in your head from The Chariots of Fire. To this day, I tear up whenever I hear Eric Liddell say “God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
Around the same time, I also saw Rocky. And of course I filled a laundry bag up with clothes and hung it from the ceiling. It was the perfect punching bag. How can you not get pumped up when Roc says, “Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up.”
It is good to have these prompts in your life to change your mindset. You are going to have weeks where you have had too many tank empty-ers in a row. These are events or people that have totally zapped your energy. You need to add some tank fillers to your day. Sometimes you can’t carve enough time away to go fishing, but you can watch part of a movie, turn up the volume on your favorite song or especially turn to the Word for the ultimate pick-me-up!
Scriptures that motivate me!
Matthew 19:26 NIV
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Movies that energize me!

I ran Cross Country in High School and College...years later when I watched Chariots of Fire and listened to Eric Liddell speak, especially the quote you included and when he was reading from the 40th chapter of Isaiah... I wept... remembering all the miles I had run for Jesus... I wept for joy!!... I still do whenever I watch it!
Thanks, Coach!
Great message!! Thanks for the memories
