It’s o-fish-ally Friday and I like to stock the pond with different kinds of topics. Some of the topics might school you and increase your knowledge. Some will put a smile on your face to start off a reel-y good weekend. And others you may find too fishy to the taste, so feel free to catch & release.
There’s no business like show business
Tonight, Mrs. Coach H and I are having a date night. We are attending our daughter’s middle school musical. She has a supporting role that she did not love, but she does love the theater. This is her second play after landing one of the leading roles in the fall play. Mrs. Coach H went to opening night last night and was amazed with our daughter’s confidence and command of the stage (in an acting sense).
It is fun to see her hit her stride. My daughter has been a perfectionist for most of her young life. So much so that it has kept her from trying anything new out of a fear of failure. When she was on the fence about trying out for her first play, I encouraged her to go and do it; rush to failure. I gave her the sage advice that the worst that can happen is that you find out your not good at it or that you don’t like it. Then you can move on and have no regrets about never trying. You will clear all that brain space and can tackle a new challenge. Most likely, you will give it your best shot and you will be somewhere between average and amazing. Then you will have to decide if you want to be disciplined enough to improve. I told her that deep down inside I bet you already know you can be good even though you have very little experience. Now you just have to do it.
Are you not doing something because you are fearful of being rejected? Maybe you fear being seen as a fool? I remember meeting a guy who had a successful career as a mortgage broker, but decided to go to medical school at the age of 48 to be a doctor. When I met him he was in his late 50’s and a great doctor. Deep down he knew he would be successful.
I am curious what opportunities you readers are avoiding. I bet there are some great actors and doctors out there.
It’s getting Hot Here.
I am daydreaming about hitting the beach this summer in Cape Cod with my family. But the Cape has turned into Amity Island.
Is Free Speech making a comeback in the US?
Looks like Netflix is trying to regain market share by embracing free speech.
We dropped Netflix awhile back, but Netflix plans to release a Norm Macdonald stand up special he recorded before he passed away last September.
Hooray!!! I have passed the 30 subscriber mark with a small network and no social media. I’d appreciate your help getting The Fishermens Club to 100!
Have a great weekend!
