It’s o-fish-ally Friday and I like to stock the pond with different kinds of topics. Some of the topics might school you and increase your knowledge. Some will put a smile on your face to start off a reel-y good weekend. And others you may find too fishy to the taste, so feel free to catch & release.
You’re Beautiful, Baby!
Today I am going to be a “Brag-Dad”. We attended my daughter’s school awards ceremony last night. Well, Coach H’s daughter won an award and then another award; and yet a third award and another; and one more after that. I of course was a beaming proud Dad and knowing full well that it didn’t come from my side of the family! She’s wicked smahht!
At the end of the ceremony my daughter expressed that she was so proud to earn those awards but that it felt awkward to keep going up in front of a full auditorium. And of course, after the event she was congratulated and complimented over and over again. Her response was perfect. To each person she said, “Thank you.” Nothing more and nothing less.
On the way home, I expressed how proud of her I was for being so succinct in her responses to the many compliments she received. Most people don’t do that and spend much of their energy trying to deflect the attention.
I used to be good at dodging every incoming compliment. I would playfully deny the compliment or even worse immediately give a compliment right back. A friend of mine once told me that this is not only rude, but you are denying another person joy! Say that again? By denying or quickly creating a transaction out of a compliment you are denying that person the joy derived from giving a compliment.
Wow! I had never thought of it that way. It is much better to give than receive. What if you thought long and hard about the perfect present for someone and they just denied it and handed it back to you? A compliment is a gift. Just receive it and say thank you.
Double-Digit Gas Prices!?
Did you hear they are upgrading the gas pumps along the West Coast so it can hold double digits? As in $10.00 per gallon! Who is still going on that Griswold family driving vacation this summer? Coach H and family are talking about road tripping up to New England but we may need to take out a second mortgage for fuel. Where are you going this summer?
Favorite Dad Joke
I own the world’s worst thesaurus.
Not only is it terrible, it's terrible.
In just over a week The Fishermen’s Club has grown from 30 to 41 subscribers! Please continue to share. We are trying to get to 100 subscribers without social media.
Have a great weekend y’all!
Coach H
Take Your Compliment Like a Man.
Congratulations to your daughter...for her accomplishments and for learning at a young age to simply say: "Thank you"
Congrats Coach!!
